Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 1 Corinthians 7:1-2

I really didn’t want to enter the 50 Shades debate. I think it was because I’m still reeling from the President of the United States 1standing up before the 2015 National Day of Prayer and reminding us all that we should dismount our ‘high horses’ of anger and justice (in regard to Muslims burning a man alive), and pause to remember the church’s historical record. I’ve this vision of President Obama calling me out, “Ya know Dave, I think you should get off your ‘high horse’ and stop talking about all this ‘sex within marriage’ stuff. Seems to me your record on this issue makes you a hypocrite.”

Ya know Dave, I think you should get off your ‘high horse’ and stop talking about all this ‘sex within marriage only’ stuff.”

Ugh

He’s right.

Where do I get off warning others about their sexual exploits after I’ve had my fill. While I’m at it, what business do I have warning others about drug and alcohol abuse, drunk driving, aggravated assault, or dare I say murder. Let the record show that Dave has lots and lots of blood on his hands.

A ‘Biblical Reality’ Check

This is where we all need to pause and consider all the players in the Bible, save Jesus. Can you think of one who was without sin? Me either. But yet these same men, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote the Bible. My mind immediately flashes to the Apostle Paul; a guy who arrested and murdered Christians, not unlike some barbarian Muslims we know! How dare this wretched man offer us Godly counsel and call it wise.

Ah, but for the grace of God, there go I.

Our One Defense

For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Romans 3:28

Sinners have only one defense in this matter: we boldly proclaim Biblical truth because we are justified by our saving faith in Jesus Christ. It is not the Christian who speaks, but the saint who is robed in His righteousness. No one in Christ’s church sits upon a high horse except Christ Himself, and it is in His name we may speak. It is for this reason I often declare on these matters that I have no opinion – I have a Bible. Therefore, we boldly proclaim that sex outside of marriage (i.e., marriage between a man and a woman) is wrong because God has said so.

I Don’t Agree

Please don’t argue with me or anyone else, read Acts 15:20; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 2 Corinthians 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; and Jude 7 for yourself. If you still don’t agree, bring your debate to God, however trust me, “But Dave did it,” is not good fodder for your argument! The Bible commands complete abstinence before marriage, with sex between a husband and his wife being the only sexual relationship God approves.

It’s Black and White

5o Shades of Grey is nothing more than perversion. Even when I was active in my sexual sin I would have recognized this book as perverted, depraved, and pornographic. There’s nothing gray about it being smut. Know this: if you’re a follower of Jesus Christ and find yourself attracted to this book (and reportedly there are many), you are being deceived and you’re opening a door to consequences you may not be prepared for. Check out the last verse of Romans 1.

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Romans 1:32

Earlier in this same Book, the Apostle Paul makes ill mention of all practitioners of unrighteousness, with dishonorable recognition going towards fornication, inventors of evil things, an unnatural affections. If we stop reading after verse 31, we might ride away on our high horses saying, “Shame on these evil doers,” but verse 32 serves to knock us out of the saddle by reminding us that if watch (or read) from the sidelines, we’re just as guilty.

Please don’t reject 50 Shades because some hypocrite told you it was filth; reject it because God says it’s more harmful than you know.

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:7-9

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” (Romans 13:1)

As per chapter 13 of the Book of Romans, God appoints governing authorities for a specific purpose. Here it is: “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” (Romans 13:3-4)

But if you do evil, be afraid

In theory, those who are appointed by God to these authoritative positions, be they police officers or Presidents of the United States, are Obama Face Palm-240x180to be ministers of God’s goodness, but this is not their only calling. They are also avengers (those who take vengeance), called to execute wrath (strong and fierce punishment) on those who do evil, for the sake of God’s righteousness and for those who abide by His laws. Never should they condone evil practices or suggest that those who long for justice are ignorantly riding their horses highly.

But Wait!

Didn’t God say, “Vengeance is Mine!” Is there not coming a day when God will pour out His wrath on an unrepentant world?

Yes, these things are true, but clearly, as the Romans 13 text demonstrates, God does not expect (or require) that the law-abiding world stand idly by while satanic-driven terrorism floods our streets. Prior to proclaiming [that] vengeance belongs to God, the Scripture maintains that whenever possible we’re to live peaceably with all men and to not exact punishment ourselves – God has appointed governments to exact certain punishments. The ultimate vengeance that belongs to God alone concludes with condemnation. Men and governments have no such authority, but neither must we wait to douse the fires of those who desire to set us ablaze. We are free to eliminate them and then trust God to judge them and us accordingly.

Meanwhile…

With God’s help, we’re to love and pray for those folks who do evil, remembering that Jesus took their sins to the cross, as well as ours. If they’re not aware of that Good News, then it’s our duty to tell them, if and when God affords us the opportunity to do so.

Hold Them Accountable

Don’t be fooled into believing that our only option is to be found in the voting booth. In America, the authorities that govern us (appointed by God) have also provided us many liberties. Let us boldly utilize them, while never forgetting to pray for the leadership of this country and also how God would use us.

Frankly, our leadership is not effectively doing the job God appointed them to do. The Romans passage quoted above tells us that ‘if you do evil,’ you should be afraid of the governing authorities. When I look around the world today, I don’t believe anyone looks at our president with fear. Based on his words and actions they may in fact see him as an ally or a sympathizer. This should not be and it’s okay to say so.

In this light, it’s okay to vocalize our concerns and to pray for these problems to be rectified. All of this certainly, and yes Biblically, falls into the category of submission to authority. So pray for salvation for those who may need it and also for Holy Spirit revival for those who need that. Pray for obedient boldness for those [who] God may be calling to leadership positions and that others may step down for their failure to uphold the tenets of their offices.

Hope

Our ultimate hope is in Jesus Christ, but let us also be good stewards of the goods and governments He has provided. Let no one neglect them as they wait for Christ’s return.

“Jesus taught peace, love and forgiveness. He came to give His life for the sins of mankind, not to take life. Muhammad on the contrary was a warrior and killed many innocent people. True followers of Christ emulate Christ — true followers of Muhammad emulate Muhammad.”

Franklin Graham

“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” (Ephesians 5:6-11)

Let No Man Deceive You

“Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not Islamic… No religion condones the killing of innocents.” President Obama, September 10, 2014

The argument that ISIL is not Islamic is ludicrous: every single member of ISIS/ISIL 91014claims to be a true Muslim.  What the president is trying to falsely establish is that ISIS (or ISIL, as he prefers) may say they are Islamic, but they are not. His agenda is to propagate the fictitious tenet that Muslims are a peace-loving people. In the light of massive amounts of horrific evidence to the contrary, that is a boldface lie. The POTUS can repeat the ridiculous comment, “No religion condones the killing of innocents,” until he is blue in the face, but the Islamic Quran contradicts him over one hundred times.  As an alleged student of the Quran, President Obama would know this — according to Islamic doctrine, it condones, supports, and encourages the killing of innocent people.

Reprove Them

You may not be a student of the Qur’an (I’m not, nor do I recommend it), but finding directs quotes from their manual is straightforward. Read these snippets for yourself and you decide if Islam is evil; you determine if the Islamic religion condones the killing of innocents.

  • Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them (2:191)
  • Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an (8:12)
  • Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood (9:123)
  • When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)
  • Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay Jizya tax  (9:29)
  • Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable (3:85)
  • The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)
  • Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam. (5:33)
  • Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin (22:19)
  • Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)
  • The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them (8:65)
  • Muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)
  • Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels (8:60)

Here’s the reality. There ARE peace-loving Muslims, but the REAL Muslims hate them and want to kill them [because] they aren’t true Muslim believers. I would agree — a peace-loving Muslim is a Muslim in name only. In other words, if you are a Muslim and you love Christians, Jews, and the notion of residing in peace with them, you are not following the directives of the Quran, you are a false Muslim – true Muslims kill (or desire to kill) Jews, Christians, and whoever they perceive to be false Muslims. In this particular case these true Muslims have gathered as a militia and collectively call themselves ISIS. They also go by other names, such as: Hamas, al-Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Iranian Revolution, Islam Hadhari, Salafism, Taliban, and Islamic State (IS/ISIL/ISIS)

Who Cares?

So the president lied (again) — what difference does it make? After all, doesn’t the Bible say…

“Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.” (Psalm 37:1-2)

It most certainly does! I’m not calling you to fret, but to be informed. God has reminded us that we are in the last days and there will be those (like our president) preaching peace and security (where there is none), and luring us with their lies towards false gods. We must not slumber, but watch and be sober, and maintain our vigilance for we don’t know the hour of the Lord’s return. We have been called to recognize the signs of our times and to warn others.

Don’t Be Fooled

The president’s words serve to deceive.  Oh not that these (or any) singular remarks unto themselves can change the course of history; no the danger lies in their rapid accumulation. If we allow ourselves to be fooled, or lulled into a false sense of security, or worse, buying into the heresy that Muslims and Christians worship the same God, we will find ourselves in the midst of a one-world government and a one-world religion. Again, don’t fret — these things are inevitable; they are going to occur and we cannot prevent it, but we mustn’t be caught unaware; we must be wise to their development. In these last days we must ramp up our resolve to reckon our flesh dead and to function in and by the Holy Spirit.

People die every day believing the lie – what efforts have we made in seeking the Lord to identify these lost souls and to share with them the truth of the Gospel? Our days are numbered and the lies are heaping up so fast, we quickly forget what the last one was! Be alert, be vigilant, be loving, be bold in your faith, and exercise your religious liberty while it is still a liberty.

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables…be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” (2 Timothy 4:2-5)

*DISCLAIMER: It sure sounds like I HATE Muslims. I don’t. I love them. I desire that they repent and turn to Jesus for salvation. I have no desire to kill or behead them if they refuse to believe the truth of the Gospel. I share the message in love, and if they receive and embrace it, good for them! If they don’t, they have been lovingly warned.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Galatians 6:7

An Open Letter to President Obama

Dear President Obama,

After the attack on our American consulate in Benghazi, whereby four Americans were killed, including changeU.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, and ten others were injured, you erroneously blamed the attack on a poorly produced, anti-Muslim video. At a reported cost of $70,000.00 to American taxpayers, you authorized and starred in a television advertisement, to be aired overseas, to denounce the film. In this government sanctioned ad, you shared how you reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Hillary Clinton added that America rejects the anti-religious content and message of the video.

We have since learned that the anti-Muslim video was not the cause of this murderous, terrorist attack. But be that as it may, you did get one thing right: there is no place for hate-filled, anti-religious rhetoric in America. So as a result, I have a question for you Mr. President…

Where’s the outrage of this effort to denigrate Christian religious beliefs?

Or this one…

These movies mock God, His Holy Word the Bible, Christians, and the Church of Jesus Christ. Seriously Mr. President, this is all okay with you? Is it not within your power to scrape together another $70,000.00 and make a commercial for Americans outlining how these types of movies are denigrating and hurtful? The fact remains that you could merely share your outrage (if you have any) at your next press conference or public appearance.

Would you at least do that?

And just so we’re clear Mr. President, I am not suggesting you take away our First Amendment right to free speech (Heaven forbid), but rather you share with this nation what it means to be tolerant of all religions. Honestly Mr. President, the message you are sending is that you only care for the Muslim religion. Is it because American Christians are typically peace-loving and we don’t react to the mocking of our ‘God and faith‘ by burning buildings and killing people? Do you assume because American Christians are not radically destructive, that these videos are acceptable?

Mr. President, it’s time for you to step up to the plate and be a leader. America is a nation of many religions and it is shameful that you only respect the beliefs of a small portion of our citizens. Your lack of leadership, represented by you silence on the issue, is both troublesome and appalling.

Mr. President, we are eagerly waiting for a change.

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12

Sincerely,

David Wells — Christ follower, and tolerant American

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. Luke 2:1
.
What Would You Do

What is your response to the decrees put forth by today’s rulers?

  • Do you pray or do you protest?
  • Do you obey or boycott?
  • Do you comply or complain?

We should consider the example of the Joseph and Mary. Comphy and cozy in Nazareth, waiting for the birth of the Christ Child, along comes Caesar Augustus and his ridiculous decree. How did they respond; did they protest, grumble, or disobey? My suspicion (based on their eventual reaction) is that their response was more in line with Paul’s exhortation found in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, despite having never read it.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

That’s Faith

Joseph and Mary knew that God was in control. They also understood that God is not capable of lying; if He said something was going to occur, it surely would. And perhaps most importantly they recognized that God occasionally will allow seemingly bad things to happen in order that His will be done. They had to perceive this, otherwise they certainly would not have ventured out of their home to have a baby. It took faith in God and obedience to an unreasonable decree, in order that prophesy would be fulfilled.

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” Micah 5:2

I am not saying that we need to, ‘Shut-up and pay our taxes,’  but rather that we remember our Lord is in control. He alone has allowed those in authority to be in power and good or bad, republican or democrat, they are nothing more than marionettes in His hand. God has the power to turn ugly into beauty; failure into fulfillment. Our primary recourse is to pray, vote wisely, and exercise the activities our laws allow.

Having said that…

Is there ever a time to disobey the government? Absolutely! If the powers-that-be ask us to break one of God’s laws, then by all means we should disobey, even if it means we will likely suffer greatly — even unto death. But with rebellion comes a warning: if you choose to disobey, you better be able to quote chapter and verse to support the position your taking, otherwise our only godly recourse is to pray, give thanks, and live a quiet and peaceful life trusting in Christ Jesus.

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2

  1. What do these verses say about God
  2. What do they say about us?
  3. What kind of changes do we need to consider?

A message from Focus on the Family Action and one I believe needs our prayerful attention–amazingly, this line-item did NOT come up in President Obama’s speech last night.   If you feel so led, pray, write your political leaders, and/or yield to anything the Lord would have you peaceably do…

Dear Friend,

Congress will soon be deciding whether or not your money will be used to pay for abortions in federally mandated healthcare. Right now, the House and Senate are each considering healthcare reform bills that–in their current form–will include abortion coverage funded or subsidized by your tax dollars. Your help is needed to make sure that Congress excludes abortion and abortion funding from the healthcare reform bills.

While President Obama has repeatedly said that he wants to reduce the number of abortions, this healthcare reform plan would actually lead to government mandates for abortion coverage, dramatically increasing the number of taxpayer-funded abortions. Sadly, all attempts so far to exclude abortion and include conscience protections for medical professionals who do not want to provide abortions have been defeated in committee by Democrats, despite the fact that two recent polls show that between 63 and 71 percent of Americans favor laws that prevent taxpayer funds from being used for abortions.

Research also tells us that when abortions are publicly funded, the number of abortions go up. But when public funding is reduced or is not available at all, there are fewer abortions. In addition to increasing abortions, current healthcare reform plans will force Americans–including those with deeply held religious beliefs about protecting preborn human life–to pay for abortions.

One thing most Americans agree on is that there should be fewer abortions, but by passing the President’s healthcare reform plan without specifically excluding abortion, Congress will be opening the door to more abortions.

Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of issue analysis at Focus on the Family Action™, said it’s crucial for Congress to exclude abortion and abortion funding from the healthcare reform bills.

“Current healthcare plans will force taxpayers to fund abortion, employers to include abortion in healthcare coverage and doctors to carry out abortions,” Earll warned. “Do you want your tax dollars to fund abortions? If not, please make your voice heard in support of preborn life now.”

Take Action

Please call your U.S. representative and ask him or her to specifically exclude abortion from the healthcare reform plan, as well as include specific protections for healthcare providers’ rights of conscience. Contact information for your representative is available in our Action Center.
